1. Materials & tools

Yarn: Simply Yarn (Recycled cotton, Polyester), 150 g (5.29 oz), 160 m (175 yds),
one ball in color 32 & 02.
Yarnart jeans (55% cotton – 45% pac), 50g (1.76 oz), 160 m (174 yds), one ball in
colors 03.
Hook: 3.5mm (recommend hooks 2.75 – 3.5mm).

You can crochet multiple squares or adjust the size of the squares to create a larger piece.

3. Crochet pattern

Part 1: Face panel

(Start with yarn color 03)

R1: MR 6sc.

R2:  inc in every stitch (12).

R3: (sc, inc)6 (18).

R4: (sc, inc, sc)6 (24).

R5: (3sc, inc)6 (30).

R6: (2sc, inc, 2sc)6 (36).

R7-12: 36sc

R13: (2sc, dec, 2sc)6 (30).

R14: (3sc, dec)6 (24).

R15: (sc, dec, sc)6 (18).

R16: (sc, dec)6 (12).

R17: (dec)6 (6)

Cut and sew the yarn.

Part 2: Outer Shell

(Start with yarn color 40)

R1: MR 6sc.

R2:  inc in every stitch (12).

R3: (sc, inc)6 (18).

R4: (sc, inc, sc)6 (24).

R5: (3sc, inc)6 (30).

R6: (2sc, inc, 2sc)6 (36).

R7-10: 36sc.

R11-12: BLO 36sc (you’ll use these two rows as the base for crocheting the petal).

R13: 36sc.

You will attach the outer shell to the face panel at R13. After attaching, continue crocheting R14.

R14: (2sc, dec, 2sc)6 (30).

R15: chain 3, skip 1, slst, repeat until the end of the row.

Cut and hide the yarn.

Part 3: Petal

You will crochet in Rounds 11 and 12.

(Start with yarn color 35).

Chain 2, 1 dc into the first stitch, 1 dc into the second stitch, chain 2, 1 slst into the second stitch.

1 slst into the third stitch, chain 2, repeat until the end of the row.

Part 4: Hair

(Start with yarn color 07)

Center: MR 8dc.

Both sides: MR 6sc.

Part 5: Leaf

Small leaf: chain 6, skip 2, 1 dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc, chain 2, crochet the same on the other side, 1sc, 2 hdc, 1 dc, chain 2, 1 slst into the same stitch.

Cut and hide the yarn.

Big leaf: Chain 9, skip 2, 2 dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, chain 2, crochet the same on the other side, 2 sc, 3 hdc, 2 dc, chain 2, 1 slst into the same stitch.

Cut and hide the yarn.

You will glue it on the mochi.

Sew the two eyes in the center, 3 stitches apart. Sew the mouth in the middle of these 3 stitches.

Chain loop attachment: ch x (adjust the number of chains based on your desired length), then sew it onto the pieces and you’re done!
